Betelgeuse and Rigel stars

Betelgeuse star -

betelgeuse star

Betelgeuse looks distinctly Orange-red star, but actually, Betelgeuse star is a reddish star. This star is visible in the night sky, from November to March. It is in one of the most popular constellations - Orion constellation.

This giant star is in his old age, and soon, in about a million years, it will explode, or maybe, it might have exploded, but its light did not reach us. Since - a big star burns his fuel much faster than a small-scale star. So, this star has a short life-span( about 10 million years), compared to the sun(about 4.6 billion years).

Astronomers noticed that Betelgeuse is creating heavier elements in his core and its Betelgeuse explosion sign. Betelgeuse explosion may appear as bright as a full moon. And this also seen in daylight.

Betelgeuse is the brightest star after Rigel in Orion constellation, and 10th in the whole night sky. Orion is the name of a Hunter in greek mythology. You can see why they gave this name -

Betelgeuse is also known as Alpha Orionis. Betelgeuse is in our Milky Way and it is one of the closest red supergiant to earth. It may engulf Jupiter orbit when replaced by the sun in our solar system, and it may also reach the asteroid belt(asteroid belt location - between Mars and Jupiter).

Betelgeuse has decreased by 15% of his initial mass. Termial winds reduce the solar mass of this star for many times. This winds can't reach us because Betelgeuse is about 642 light-years away from earth.

Like Betelgeuse star, Antares is also a giant star. They both have only a Slighty difference between their mass, size, etc..., but they are in a different constellation. Antares is the 16th brightest star and a binary star. Same like Antares, Betelgeuse has many Indian names, and Thiruvathirai is one of them.

Rigel star -

Rigel, also known as Beta (𝞫) Orionis, is a seventh brightest star in the night sky. We can find this star in the northern hemisphere of the winter night sky. Perhaps, it is erroneous to say that Rigel is a single star, but actually, it is a star system of at least four-star, which appears as a single dot with a blue glare. Every star in the night sky is unique, but because of bluish-white color and to be familiar as the brightest star in Orion (Hunter) Constellation, sort it very popular.

This star is about 836 light-years from the sun and has about 12,000 K temperature. Many astronomers say that Rigel had lost their mass of about 3 times of Sun-mass by terminal winds.

If this Supergiant takes place of the sun in our solar system, Star's hotness will make the Earth - uninhabitable, and its volume in space may pass over Mars(orbit) to reach the Asteroid belt. As a star get older, it increases his size and changes his color, and Astronomers believe one day, Rigel will also shift their size, and change its color to Orange-Red, then it will seem like Betelgeuse.

Rigel, the word is derived from the Arabic word - Rijl Jauzah al Yusrā, which means - the leg foot of the central one. In Indian Hindi language, people call this star as Rajni Star(राजन्य तारा).

Like Antares like Betelgeuse, Rigel is also near to its end and will explode to supernova within a few million years. Its explosion might appear as the second moon.
