Radha Govinda Chandra was an Indian astronomer, born on July 1878 in Bengal (present time Bangladesh). He was not interested in formal education, and due to this, he failed many times for a secondary school certificate. Chandra was interested in the dark sky of stars. And So he started doing amateur astronomy with his weak binoculars and observes Halley's comet. After then he bought a 3 ich lens telescope and continue his self astronomy.

He discovered Nova Aquila-3 and then reported to Harvard Observatory in 1918. He joined AAVSO and, so, the Association loaned him a 6–inch telescope given by Charles W. Elmer.

The first international member of the AAVSO was Italian Giovanni B. Lacchini of Faenza. In his lifetime, he contributed more than 58,000 observations to the AAVSO. And then Radha Govinda Chandra of, who made over 49,700 observations.

In 1928, Chandra received the French Officer d’ Academic Brevet and Badge for his work. 1954, Chandra retired from observing at the age of 76. He was asked to move on to the AAVSO telescope in India. He died on 3 April 1975.
